Avalon AKA Amelia Zarovich - The Knight in Shining Armour

“In the years following the Crisis, Avalon devoted her efforts to reforming SPEAR. She established the Knights of the Round Table to act as a semi-autonomous watchdog, providing much-needed oversight to many of the world's larger organisations. SPEAR and JCG technologies received the majority of the Knights' attention in the early years, but their work eventually broadened to cover many aspects of society.

“The only major failing of the Knights was over the safeguarding of the Oracle time machine. The knights sought to preserve the device so that they might receive prior warning of any calamitous events in the future. Instead, a lone SPEAR operative decided that our timeline was the one in which the calamitous events had already happened, and operated Oracle before the Knights could stop him.

“Unlike those organisations which had gone before, Avalon ensured that the Knights operated to a strict code of conduct, with safeguards and internal checks ensuring that this code was upheld. The code was grounded firmly in Avalon's own personal morals, and it forbade murder of any kind. There was initially a single exception, for when Oracle provided information that could not be acted upon without causing deaths, but this was rendered moot when Oracle disappeared.”

“Quite frankly, I could call it the event of the century. Never before had book launch and matrimonial vow been combined to such dramatic effect, and knowing Avalon, Arkady, and myself, I doubt they ever will be again. A tip to readers: Avalon entered the occasion in typical fashion, through the roof, with white cloak billowing, and I can only recommend such an entrance (see the forthcoming The Eleven Step Guide to Wedding Success for more details). Arkady made sure to equip the venue with the usual products of his scientific and demonic endeavours, including some flower girls with such excessively sharp teeth that I rather doubted their humanity.

The ceremony/book signing went well, culminating in the presentation and demonstration of rings that had the dual purpose of turning into longswords, and (I assume) also signifying commitment. Following the weapons demonstration and the subsequent altar repairs, the pair were married - Avalon took Zarovich's name, becoming Amelia Zarovich.

Many of their acquaintances from Capital City society attended, including Virtual Adept, who made a quite heartwarming toast. Less heartwarming and more abrupt was Minerva's, whose attendance was a little surprising to the Knights present.”

“After a long and successful career, Avalon made one final journey with her husband. The Eldritch Research Institute had succeeded at opening a one-way portal to a parallel timeline, and the now-immortal pair decided that they could do the most good by repeating their successes in another universe. It is hoped that they went on to great things, and that untold billions benefited from their selfless dedication to their cause. Certainly we shall never know for sure where they ended up, or what they ended up doing, but I for one choose to believe that they found their fates to be happy ones.”
