“Merlin (AKA Anathema, AKA Arkady Zarovich, allegedly Sable and World Eater) is allegedly responsible for the reduced hostility between the separatists and SPEAR - acting on both sides of the divide, as well as for the Knights of the Round Table, he steered the separatists onto a path of stopping corruption and exploitation, rather than simply dismantling any large organisation they could find… Some separatists kept their fight against SPEAR alive for personal reasons. Many years after SPEAR and the separatists ended their conflict in Capital City as a result of the independence movement and Sable's leadership, SPEAR staff was still targeted in attacks, though without the logistical support of the Capital City Separatist Branch, most of these attacks were unsuccessful. The exact extent of the subversion is however still unknown.

“After the Capital City Branch came into the open and started working with SPEAR and the government, many of the hardliners left to join other branches… In many ways, the separatist chapters and branches that were still running took one of two forms- either, they developed their own political representatives and worked with the powers that be, or they merged with other underground organisations, adding a political edge to general crime. The California chapter was the exception that proved the rule. With their first rebellion unsuccessful, they lacked support, as well as lacking a foothold with local politics… One of the most notorious became the California branch, especially after Shepherd took over operations. Struggling for independence in an environment that was generally not supportive of the notion meant many of them kept to guerrilla tactics and underhanded attacks against SPEAR, wherever possible…

“Most separatist chapters were dissolved by the turn of the century, as the independence movement in Capital City saw equal movements spring up around the globe. With most of their aims met, many separatists either retired from their politically active days, or, as a minority of hardliners did, moved on to chapters that were still fighting for independence. By the 2120s only a handful of chapters were still operating, with the majority of them being American ones. The lack of economic development severely hindered any progress, but over the next thirty years, most of America achieved independence as well. The California branch was the last branch to be officially dissolved in 2152, after the release of millions of documents against the Knights of the Round Table, SPEAR, JCG Technologies and similar power blocks. According to some reports however, individual separatists kept their fight against SPEAR alive long after that.”
