JCG Technologies - Eternity

The Gamasot Inquiry

“The first main task of the JCG merger was the Gamasot Inquiry: the investigation into allegations of kidnappings, murder, and human experimentation on the part of the former Gamasot executive. Initially headed by Jack Stapleton with external oversight from the newly emerged Knights, Stapleton's brutally efficient investigation soon turned up sufficient evidence to incriminate himself thoroughly, and he was removed and tried - eventually, imprisoned for a period of five years.

The conclusion was clear: Old Gamasot had been systematically running human experiments on the missing people. Initially identified via the Hospitals Initiative's records as a sudden influx of new citizens with no links (of course, we are now aware these were a result of SpaceTime's intervention in the Justice Crisis), Kelly Moon and James Choi saw them as an opportunity to test out new mutations. The mutagen in question was derived from the Australian megafauna, and had been known of for some time: secretly used by Gamasot's Division 8 to alter plants, animals, and even induce very specific mutations in people (with the only notable success being the regenerative S Sequence). This new run of tests was to identify possible new superpowers the mutagen could provide.

Naturally, despite the citizens' newly arrived statuses, Gamasot eventually took people who would be missed. The resulting investigations exposed Gamasot, and resulted in a run of attempted - and successful - murders as both Choi and Moon attempted to halt investigations, particularly Avalon's through the use of her brother, the Oversight operative Lord Luck. These culminated in the Lake Geneva Incident, in which investigators were lured to a warehouse under the pretense that an illegal Gamasot/SPEAR meeting was taking place, and subsequently ambushed.

Luck fled during the investigation, and has since become one of the most notorious figures in Gamasot history - second only to Moon herself. Stapleton, who had been involved in providing security for each of these sites on the advice of his superior and long time friend Kelly Moon, was heavily implicated, but not to the same extent. The inquiry concluded, steps were taken to ensure it could never happen again, involving prominent oversight by the Knights of the Round Table, as well as an internal investigative service.

Naturally, the recently created AI copy of Moon's mind was promptly thrown into prison alongside her original.”

The Power Development Programme

“JCG are now seeking volunteers for superpower development! Do you want to help make your dream power a possibility?

Any unwanted effects will be compensated for, and removed by our neighbouring department. Please contact the PDP Information Desk for more information”

“After Stapleton's return from his jail sentence, he resumed work on the now more ethical - and more closely observed Powers Development Programme, still closely associated with Division Eight. It was Stapleton who founded the power removal part of the department: finding a way to undo the effect of the mutagen, and perhaps even to remove unwanted powers altogether. This permitted more voluntary widespread testing, as well as benefiting those who had always felt their genetic powers an inconvenience.

The Pigeon, following his grand speech, acted as a surprising adept recruit to this programme: advising and coordinating the teams working on the complex problem. Galen Burrell, initially involved, was found to be supporting exactly half of the program - while aiding the removal side, several incidents of sabotage of the development were eventually traced back to him, partially with the Knights' aid.”

The Fate of the Collective

“What happened to that elusive entity? Well, some is a matter of debate: after its sabotage and subsequent splitting at the hands of Separatist malware, its component personalities went their separate ways.

Gwendolyn Jeeves is popularly believed to have spent much of her downloaded life watching over her daughter, although a close tracking reveals she spent a similar amount of time travelling the world on a tight schedule with only one constant companion: Siren. What she was doing there we can only speculate.

Eleanore Jeeves is currently a museum exhibit - on Vespion, though nobody's really been there to check.

What about the other Jeeves'? Well, at least one never downloaded. Gwendolyn's sister - my personal theory is, anyway - is the core of a small cult on SuperHub, currently ironically devoted to the deity living in their servers and able to alter their posts on a whim.

Robbins? Well, she certainly downloaded. Spent the rest of her life working on adapting the technology she'd made for her own AI to the use of others. Even worked with Stapleton on the sensory upgrades. She was particularly keen on taste, for some reason, which means we mostly have her to blame for the infamous CAITLIN incident.”

The Eternal CEO (and Chronicler)

“Liberty Jeeves spent the remainder of her lives managing JCG (after the post-Siren Spire redecoration). Each time her body neared its expiry date, she would re-upload and download into two new clones - effective doubling her managerial power. While this led to a little confusion among the employees, particularly before the minds were synchronised automatically (being given two separate tasks by two separate instances of Jeeves frequently led to difficulties), it certainly contributed to her ability to run the vast corporation. I have no doubt that Liberty will continue to grow for a long time yet.”

”…Item four on the agenda: who gave Martin Falk the S sequence? And why is he still writing about us? The most irritating man in this corporation's history is now functionally immortal.”

The AI Rights Initiative

“One of Liberty Jeeves' main triumph was the AI Rights Initiative, which fought for equal AI rights globally. Thanks largely to its efforts, AIs now have rights on par with humans in most of the separated nations' legal systems - and even those resisting are still being worked on. It also worked on combatting social anti-AI prejudice, and claimed the popular SuperHub figure Virtual Adept as an example of these anti AI attitudes - making him a very controversial figure. The uploaded mind, ALDWN, was the AI behind much of the outreach efforts of the programme - finding, helping, and eventually recruiting lost and alienated AIs.”

CAITLIN and ALDWN

“JCG's security was entrusted - after the firing of Dr Galen Burrell for attempted sabotage of the PDP - to two entities: CAITLIN and ALDWN. CAITLIN, an adapted former TEDDY fragment, took over ELLIE's search functionality. ALDWN, the Animus for Localised Defense and Warding in Networks, was an uploaded mind who took charge of cyber security for the devastated Primary Testing. However, they soon grew to do far more. ALDWN united the lost AIs into a global defensive network - one which was eventually subscribed to by a number of governments as well.”

The End of the Feud

“Dr Withers, we are aware you were happy on the occasion of Dr Marsh's retirement, yes. We are aware that fireworks are a typical mode of celebration, yes. Nevertheless, we do not accept your conclusion that firebombing his apartment with ExoSuits was an appropriate reaction to the news.”
