SPEAR Brief

This page tells you what you, as someone involved in SPEAR, need or ought to know beyond public knowledge of this organisation. Please also note that the information available here is not all there is, it is simply what would be known to the ranks available at game start. As you progress in the organisation, more information may become available. Alternatively, you may come across things while investigating. Whether you decide to share this information with others is up to you. However, the GMs ask that you relay this information in your own words instead of simply showing others the organisation brief, to maintain a sense of IC authenticity. The GM in charge of this organisation is Mike. If you have any questions related to this organisation, feel free to get in touch with them.

Other People of Note

Ceres

Captain of Lotophagi, the counter-narcotics subdivision, which is a joint Aegis/Oculus task force. Ceres has no known powers, but her considerable intelligence gathering abilities more than make up for this.

Vejovis

Captain of Panacea, a subdivision of Aegis specialising in healing and disaster recovery. Constantly complaining about a lack of budget, and that all the money goes to the more glamorous work of catching criminals rather than saving lives. Despite this, his division manages to do a lot of good work, though they often have some unofficial help from Garuda.

Bia

A member of the Furies, currently on probation after the supervillain Malachite was killed during what should have been a simple capture mission. She has a reputation for getting carried away when fighting, but prior to the Malachite mission this had stopped short of any serious incident. Rumours are circulating that unless she seriously impresses Alecto soon, there will be an opening for the Furies very shortly.

Nine Day Fall

A member of Campe, Nine Day Fall is responsible for the magical field which permeates the area around Tartarus, making it very difficult for anyone not authorised by her to move faster than a walk. Her magic only needs renewing every week or so, and she spends the rest of the time making sure she knows as many SPEAR members as possible, to more accurately be able to identify them if they need to visit Tartarus.

What we Really Think

Garuda

“Right, unofficially, totally off the record, I never said this, but if you encounter any members of Garuda, leave them to it. For the most part, they do more good than harm, so even if you see them doing something which you'd bring anyone else in for, you don't act without my express permission, got it?” - Alecto

“Our assets within Garuda are keeping an eye on their activities, but for now all you need to know is that they seem to be exactly what they claim to be: an organisation dedicated to the good of humanity. We keep an eye on them, I'm sure they keep an eye on us, so if any of you are reporting back, let Sparrow know that we'll stay out of their way so long as they don't overstep their bounds. Of course, any contact with the organisation by a SPEAR operative would be grounds for court martial.” - Apollo

“They're doing a damned better job of keeping your average spod on the street safe than I can with this level of funding, that's for sure!” - Vejovis

The Separatists

“Scum, absolute scum. Buy me a drink sometime and I'll tell you what the world they're aiming for really looks like.” - Alecto

“Any arrests should be checked with me first. We have several assets in place, tightening the net, and it would be a shame for any of them to go dark because one of you brought the wrong person in.” - Apollo

“Yes, this is me officially countermanding Apollo's instruction. Anyone in that organisation is fair game, and I want them locked up without checking with the Suits. We have a chain of command here, and he's not on yours!” - Alecto, to members of Aegis

Other Divisions

Gladius

“Well, they're pretty irrelevant nowadays, aren't they? There's not been an external threat since the Thuun, and Aegis would be much better placed to respond to anything that happened than a load of out-of-practice reserves who haven't seen any action in years” - Bia

“If we need them, we've failed. If you keep your eyes open and your skills sharp, we can identify and eliminate any threats before we need to call in the big guns.” - Apollo

Aegis

“Oh, they're useful, in their own way, but we all know who does the real work of keeping people safe here. They just go after the big flashy ones which we let past, not the true threats who we deal with before they even get that far.” - Nyx, former agent of Oculus 1)

Oculus

“Sure, they give us the odd lead to follow, but we do all the hard work of taking the bad guys down. Hell, most of the time we do all the leg work in finding them too! If the stick up the Suits'2) ass was half-way justified, we'd have nothing to do since they'd have taken care of it all for us!.” - Bia

Recent Events

Classification Level: Oculus distribution only, secret

Classification level: Internal distribution, secret

Information in this section is to be disclosed to all SPEAR operatives, but not spread beyond the organisation

ORACLE DOWN

The Oracle intelligence source is currently unavailable. The reasons for this are unknown, but a possible link to the Moon incident is being investigated. We must assume that the loss of such an important intelligence asset is in preparation for a serious attack. All SPEAR personnel are to remain vigilant until Oculus can ascertain the cause of the disruption.

Apollo

Oculus Codewords

In the event that an Oculus agent feels the need to identify themselves, this month's codephrase is “Can I offer you a boiled sweet?”. A response of “No thanks, I only like the red ones” should be used to indicate that it is safe to talk, “Alright then, lets see what you've got” to indicate that the conversation should move somewhere private, and “Sure, why don't you offer them around?” to indicate that any others present are trusted enough to allow the agent to speak freely.

IT security

Following Vulcan's abject failure, which I'm sure you can all read about in your favourite tabloids, there is an opening within Internal Security for an IT expert. Applicants should make themselves known to Apollo or Alecto, and will be accepted from all divisions.

Classification level: Internal distribution, not secret

Information in this section is to be disclosed to all SPEAR operatives. While it is not to be released to the press officially, there is no restriction on operatives disclosing it where necessary.

Weapons heist

A shipment of weapons was stolen en-route to Olympus. This is believed to have been an action by the Separatists. Investigating the whereabouts of these weapons and apprehending those responsible is a top priority mission. While the use of external help is authorised, all of the weaponry must be returned to SPEAR, and cannot be used to compensate external providers. Contact Ceres for more information.

Classification level: Furies distribution only

Organisation News

1) Dismissed due to making comments like this a little too often, and a little too publicly
2) Oculus are colloquially known as “the Suits”, due to the preferred attire of the agents who act as their public face
